The Independent Film Foundation was brought into existence in 1999 by Polish film director and producer Dariusz Jabłoński. Since that time IFF has been involved in many film project – either creating, producing or supporting them.
The Independent Film Foundation is running Polish Film Academy, organizer of Orły (The Eagels) – Polish Film Awards, winners of which are chosen by the Academy members – Polish filmmakers.
One of the goals of IFF has always been supporting and promoting intellectually demanding films. Therefore the Foundation has been involved in various workshops, trainings and conferences. As an active development supporter IFF is the main body behind scriptwriting workshops
ScripTeast – the fastest evolving project of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe. The organizers gained the experience at Central European Scriptwriters Lab of Robert Redford's Sundance Institute, which they cooperated with for number of years.
Independent Film Foundation was also one of the initiators of Central European Cinema Stand at European Film Market and used to be responsible for Polish presentation in the Polish-Czech-Slovak pavilion at International Film Festival in Cannes.
All the features mentioned make the Independent Film Foundation one of the most resilient and versatile film institutions in Central and Eastern Europe.
